Packing For My Trip To NYC

Hi Lovelies!

As many of you know, I will be heading off to NYC on Wednesday and I could not be more excited! To make a long story short, my parents wanted to take a trip to NYC and asked if Wes and I wanted to come! Obviously, I couldn’t say no to a trip, especially one to New York…..so I said yes. Unfortunately, Wes had just started a new job and didn’t have much vacation time, so he had to pick between NYC and a trip to Michigan to see his Mom and our friends. Seeing as though he hadn’t seen any of our friends or his mother since our wedding last August, he picked to go to Michigan…you may remember when he went from this post. So, Wes will be watching our little furbaby Sophie while I head to the big city for a long weekend. I really wish he was able to come too, but let’s be honest….now he is a free dog-sitter:)

To say it was a hard task packing a carry on for a trip to New York City would be an understatement. I have been putting together outfits in my head since the moment I bought my ticket. Ok, you caught me, since the moment New York City was suggested by my Mom. These outfits have changed many, many times since then…but they are all finalized and are already packed into my little carry on suitcase. I wanted to have outfits that mix and match a little….you know, just in case I pull a classic Megan and spill something all over myself. Each of my outfits has three different ways to be styled….you can pretty much wear any of the tops with any of the bottoms! What do you think? Do you like my looks?

Three Interchangable OutfitsOutfit #1- Top: TJ Max, Burgundy Denim: H&M, Flats: Payless, Necklace: Sam Moon, Belt: Charming Charlie

Outfit #2- Top: Target, Bottoms: Target, Flats: Payless, Scarf: American Eagle

Outfit #3- Tank top: Target, Denim: H&M, Scarf: Charming Charlie, Sweater: Charming Charlie

The following 2 outfits are for when we go to see Broadway shows. I was in musicals my entire life, so my whole family really got into musicals….yes, even my dad. We hope to see as many as we can while we are there. I also recently found out that Orlando Bloom is in Romeo and Juliet on Broadway….it may be one of the best days ever if I got to meet him….just sayin’. You may recognize this first dress from a post I did not too long ago, here. The second outfit includes a skirt from the Phillip Lim for Target collection. I know, I know, I’m on a spending freeze…but if I didn’t get it, it was going to be gone. It’s the only exception I have made, I promise! I even took something I bought in August back to make up for it! (See how awesome I am at this! lol)

Last, but definitely not least, my outfit for the plane ride home. Always, always plan to wear your biggest shoes on the plane. I have learned this the hard way before, trust me. I always like to be really comfy on the plane too, I just don’t get the people who can wear heels or real jeans for a 4+ hour trip. Jeggings and a comfy long shirt are my thing, still cute but comfy as ever!

Brown Striped Top with DenimJeggings: H&M, Top: Charming Charlie, Belt & Boots: Charming Charlie, Necklace: Claire’s

This is a first for me….planning ahead of time for the exact number of outfits I will need is NOT my thing at all. I like to have choices. I like to pick when I wake up. I like to be able to change my mind. Packing a carry on bag was ROUGH! We’ll see how well this goes…..

Until tomorrow…

A Vest I Actually Like…

I’m not usually a vest person. In fact, I really don’t like vests, but let me set the scene for you. It’s the first day of my new job, I walk by the front window and see a mannequin wearing this vest.  I don’t know why, but I could already picture it in my head with this olive colored shirt I had just gotten at Forever 21. I needed it. I mean, it was my first day of work at a new store. A store that had a VERY different style than the one I had worked at for the previous 10 months. I needed new clothes. I had to fit in with the style of my new store. So, I went inside, worked my first day of training…and proceeded to buy half of the store. Oh, the days of working in retail. I remember getting in a new shipment and making fun of everything in the box….and then owning all of it 2 months later.

Back to the vest…I bought it that first day, and I have worn it in so many ways since, but for today you get the original version. My dainty lace vest paired with boots, jeans, and a plain little t-shirt:

Dainty Lace Vest

As I said earlier, there are so many ways to style this vest, and to be honest it’s weird for me that I started with this one on here. I’m not really a jeans and a t-shirt girl. I love dresses and skirts. I love to dress up. I love feminine outfits. The only really feminine part of this outfit is the dainty lace vest…I guess that’s what makes it ok:)

I have seen this vest so many places since I bought it 2 years ago, from TJ Maxx to Nordstrom. I guess it’s one of those things that doesn’t really go out of style. Be sure to check back later this fall for a fun way to wear it with a dress:)

Until next time…

My New York City Wish List

Hi Lovelies!

We leave for New York City on Wednesday and I am SOO excited! I decided to get ready for my trip, I needed to put together a little wish list of things I want to do/bring home from the big apple:)

New York Wish List

Things To Get In New York City:

  1. A really cool photograph. This taxi cab whooshing by is awesome…I really want to capture some amazing moment while I’m there. After all, I really wish I could be a professional photographer…too bad I only know how to use mine in automatic lol.
  2. Serendipity 3 frozen hot chocolate. When I spent the semester in NYC back in college we went to Serendipity 3 and it was amazing. The food, the frozen hot chocolate, the atmosphere…everything about it was just fun. Not to mention, I love the movie…
  3. The Yankees. I’ve always had a place in my heart for the Yankees…therefore, I need a cute Yankees t shirt or shorts or both:)
  4. Statue of liberty. I have been every time I have visited, but I really want to go on one of those boat rides that takes you right by it so that I can get some good photos! Maybe this will help me to attain #1…
  5. Leopard Scarf. I have been wanting one and I know that I can get one for cheap from one of those street vendors! Yeah, that’s right…I’m going to get my haggle on!
  6. Taxi make up bag. I know that I could get this anywhere, but it would be extra special if it was actually from NYC! It doesn’t even have to be Kate Spade, I just really like the black and yellow. I also have a small obsession with little pouches. I really don’t need another, but I want!
  7. Kate Spade Keds. Once again, I know I can get them at home, but they’re just too cute!

I’m sure I won’t be able to get out of the city without a few new things, hopefully including a few from my list;-) Don’t worry, I will be sure to update everyone on all of my great purchases!

Anything else I need to make sure to get or see while I’m in the big city? What would be on your NYC wish list?

Until next time…

Layering Up With Fall Florals

Hi Lovelies!

It’s finally starting to look a little bit more like fall. And by that, I mean it’s in the 90’s instead of the 100’s….Lol! That means I can start to layer up, even if it is just a light sweater. This one is great because it adds on that layer without all the extra heat. Well, without the heat as long as you aren’t standing outside taking pictures for half an hour…this shoot was still brutal. Haha!

Now, I’m not usually a purple person, it’s just never really been my color. The pattern is what drew me in on this one, it’s so dainty and classic. This top is another one of those great ones that you can take into pretty much any season you want. You can put it with white shorts in the summer…denim in the fall and winter…pink pants in the spring. Versatility is key when picking out great items for your wardrobe.

I bought this bag right after I found out that we were going to New York. It will be the perfect carry on to put my laptop, iPad, camera, and everything else in. It’s huge..and I LOVE it:) I’m sure I will be carrying it to work too, it’s just big enough to fit my laptop and everything else I need for the day.

Until tomorrow…
