Star Spangled Sangria
Thinking about the 4th of July makes me all giddy inside. It is my absolute favorite holiday. People think I’m weird because Christmas is everyone else’s favorite…..There is just something about the summer sun, lake water, the smell of sunscreen, and a little bit of sangria that makes me grin from ear to ear. Christmas is great and all, if you like all that cold weather stuff…but 4th of July is where its at:) Today’s recipe inspiration came from a photo I saw on Pinterest if watermelon pieces cut into stars. I mean, how genius is that? I decided I needed a red, white, and blue cocktail with these watermelon stars on a stick for some added flair! It turned out pretty awesome if I don’t say so my self!
Ingredients:
- 1 bottle of white wine
- Watermelon
- Strawberries
- Blueberries
- Vodka
- Triple Sec
- Sparkling Wine or club soda
Directions:
- First, you are going to want to cut up your fruit. Slice the strawberries and throw them into a big mixing bowl. Add the blueberries. To make watermelon stars, slice your watermelon and use a star cookie cutter to cut out the shapes. Throw those on in the bowl too! (Save a few stars for your garnish!)
- Next add about 2 shots of vodka (More if you have a LOT of fruit) and a shot of triple sec. Mix this up with the fruit. If your fruit isn’t mostly covered, add more!
- Refirgerate this concoction for a couple of hours until the fruit has soaked up a bit of the liquor.
- Put the fruit into a carafe or pitcher, add white wine, and sparkling wine or club soda.
- Put one of your un-soaked stars onto a kebob skewer and place it in your drink!
- VOILA! Star spangled, red, white, and blue Sangria!
I hope you all enjoy! I’m going to go dream about the 4th of July and wish it was closer than 2 weeks away:)
Birthday Weeks Are The Best!
Tomorrow is my birthday and I couldn’t be more excited about it. I don’t know what it is about birthdays that make me happy, but even though I am another year closer to being 30, I am still pumped. Maybe it’s the fact that I am requiring my husband to take me to get the best burger in Austin…or maybe it’s the red velvet Nothing Bundt Cake that we’re getting to celebrate with? Birthdays are all about the food for me. I may be doing very well with my whole 30 type diet I have going on…but on my birthday I’m having a burger, fries, AND cake! Calories just don’t count on your birthday (week) and I plan to run with that….
The Best Dress Ever…
I really just don’t understand how the weekend goes by so quickly! It went so fast that I didn’t even have a chance to write a blog post in time! This next weekend is going to go even faster because it’s my birthday weekend! Time flies when you’re having fun! Guess that just means I’m having fun with life, which is a good thing:) We got a lot accomplished this weekend….cleaned the entire house, fixed the pool up…got in a little sun and some pool time with Sophie:) We even bought tickets to go to Europe and to Michigan twice! Look how accomplished we are! We have so many things to look forward to this year and I am beyond excited!
Lilly for Target Dress // TJ Maxx Wedges // Charming Charlie Handbag // JORD Wooden Watch
This is the best dress ever. I am in love. The colors, the fit, the fact that there are flamingos on it! Flamingos have been my thing for a while now, and I am super happy that they are becoming a big thing because I can find them everywhere now! I love how this dress fits me and I can definitely see my weight loss in these photos, which also makes me happy:-D Don’t you just love looking at photos where you think you look damn good? Lol…hard work is payin’ off!
Gold Dots & Lace
Summer is here in Texas, it’s official! Summer is my absolute favorite season. I love sun dresses, shorts, and sandals. I love weekend’s in the sun and at the water. I love going to my Grandparent’s lake house for our family reunion. <sigh> I just LOVE summer! Let’s hope that this weekend is a beautiful one and that we can get some stuff done around the outside of our house that we haven’t been able to do since all of this rain began last month. I’m really in need of some sunlight and getting it while gardening sounds like the perfect way for it to happen:)
