Tights Are My Winter Savior

What to wear to work- Black lace midi dress with black blazerYou guys…I am ALL about the dresses. Pants are probably my least favorite clothing item and I hate them. Dresses and skirts are the most comfortable items in a girl’s closet, in my opinion, and I am not about to say goodbye to them just because it’s getting colder outside. Oh no. Tights. Tights are where it is at! I have pretty much every color tights you can imagine in my closet and I wear them ALL THE TIME during the winter. Layered with some cute boot cuffs and boots is my favorite way….or you can go simple like my outfit today!

I got these tights from Kushyfoot, and they are awesome. First, I love that they don’t go all the way up my torso to my bra. Those “control top” ones just make me claustrophobic. Second, they don’t cut in to your sides. No one likes that weird line where your tights cut into your side skin and make you look like you have an awkward roll. Now, maybe I just never have bought the right kind before now….but these tights don’t do that, it’s awesome!
I love that because of tights, I am going to be able to wear this dress through any weather. It’s got to be one of my all time favorite dresses and I don’t wear it nearly as often as I should. When there isn’t a blazer covering me from the winds you can see the shape of it a little better and it almost reminds me of a 50’s housewife dress. It curves in all the right places and really shows off your shape:) Love. I did get these tights for free from Kushyfoot, but I can honestly say that I would buy them regardless. They are comfortable and they are well priced. You can get a three pack for $20.97, and let’s be honest…I am not the most delicate little flower ever and ruin tights at least once per season. Ruin one? Have two more left…ha!All That Glitters Blog Signature

Keeping Up With The Joneses

White Sweater with leggings- casual cozy outfit

Last night, I met up with the beautiful Lee Ann from Life in ATX to have some coffee and chat. First of all, what a sweet heart she is! :) We were chatting about all things blogging, obviously, and one topic came up that I have been thinking a lot about lately- how to keep up with the blogging world. Everywhere you look in the blogging community you see $700 handbags, $300 flats, and everything is designer. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love my Kate Spade planner and I do have a few (really tiny) designer bags (MK, Kate Spade, and Rebecca Minkoff), but these were purchased either on sale or at Nordstrom Rack. There is a point where I have to draw the line. I feel like a big thing that comes along with blogging is figuring out how NOT to give in to the pressure to buy anything and everything! I take pride in the fact that most of my outfits come from affordable and highly available retailers. I want to show my readers how to style items that they have in their closet or can at least afford to buy! It’s nice to look at that $500 dress with those $1000 heels, but it’s just not realistic to me. Even with all the money in the world I don’t think I could justify those kind of purchases. I would rather have 10 $50 dresses than 1 $500 dress, I like a little variety.

The  handbag in this outfit is probably my biggest splurge ever, I used two $50 gift cards I won at work and paid $48 for. I had anxiety even buying that, lol.  That being said, if you see anything designer on here, it was debated upon in my head for over a month and it’s GOT to be good! 😉 I just have to keep telling myself that I would rather have money saved for the days when we decide to start a family than have those Tory Burch flats. (I think…haha!) Stay strong budgeting ladies, you’re not alone!

Thanksgiving Wear 2014

Casual Thanksgiving Wear

Thanksgiving is just over a week away and I don’t know about you, but I cannot wait for mashed potatoes and gravy! I like the turkey and all, but I am more of a side dish girl. Give me green bean casserole, stuffing, and mashed potatoes with gravy and I’m set for life:) Well, obviously I have been thinking about my Thanksgiving day outfit for weeks now and today I’m showing you my ideas! One for the casual Thanksgiving setting, like mine…and one for if you are getting a little more dressed up for the big day! I am in LOVE with the scarf and cardigan in that first outfit…and those shoes! I need some oxfords! The glittery top in the second outfit is something I may need to invest in as well. It could be used for all sorts of holidays:) Enjoy!Dressy Thanksgiving Wear

The Shopping Bag

Aztec print tunic and leggings

This weekend was a leggings and boots type of weekend. It was cold and dreary and I just wanted to cuddle up and watch movies the entire time. Fortunately, I did get to do a little laying around, but let’s be realistic I’m an adult and adults have s*** to do on the weekends. So, to make it all a little more bearable leggings it was…all weekend long.

When The Shopping bag contacted me to collaborate I picked out this tunic because there is NOTHING I love more than bright colors in the winter time.  It’s super comfy and I absolutely LOVE that it’s long enough to wear with leggings and cover my tush. Always remember: leggings are not pants! Cover your butt! I say that with the most amount of love possible! :)

The Shopping Bag has some SUPER cute clothes and I’ve already begun a shopping list for myself (duh!) including this maxi dress…how amazing is the back of that thing? The best part? Bacon Mushroom Orecchiette

Mushroom Orecchiette
Mushrooms are my favorite. I am the person who can find a way to add mushrooms in to any recipe. They are the best. When I found a recipe for mushroom pasta on Pinterest a couple of years ago I just about died. I have since committed the recipe to memory, changed it up just a bit, and perfected it. Add bacon, check! Add cheese, check! Add spice, check! This recipe is amazing because you can make it fit so many different tastes. Vegetarian? Add veggie broth instead of chicken, take out the bacon. Don’t like spice? Don’t add crushed red pepper. No cheese? Take that out too. You can mix and match the ingredients to get what you really want. Me? I think it’s perfect just like this, savory and delicious. See for yourself.
Mushroom and Bacon Pasta with Cream

Ingredients:

  • Olive Oil
  • Butter- 2 tbsp
  • Bacon- 6-8 strips
  • Mushrooms- sliced, 8 oz
  • Onion- diced, 1 large
  • Garlic-minced, 2-3 cloves
  • Orecchiette Pasta, 1 box
  • Chicken broth- 1 cup
  • Cream- 1/3-1/2 cup
  • Parmesan Cheese- 1/4-1/2 cup (Optional)
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Basil
  • Crushed Red PepperMushroom and Bacon Orecchiette with a Cream Sauce

Directions:

  1. Start with prep work. Slice the mushrooms, dice the onion, mince the garlic, grate the parmesan, get your water boiling, etc.
  2. Using a tablespoon or so of butter and some olive oil, begin to brown your mushrooms. You can do this in batches if your pan is too small, but make sure they are nice and brown.
  3. Add your noodles t the boiling water at this point. Cook until al dente.
  4. Put the mushrooms on a plate and begin the same process of caramelizing the onions. Cook your garlic with the onions. (Use butter and olive oil)
  5. Put the onions aside with the mushrooms and break out that bacon.
  6. Cook bacon until crisp and then place on a plate to the side.
  7. Put the onions back in the pan and pour the chicken stock and cream in with them.
  8. Add your parmesan cheese to the mix and let it melt in with the sauce. (This is optional. I have done it with parmesan and without and they both taste fantastic.)
  9. Once the sauce has thickened up just a bit, add your mushrooms back in.
  10. Season to your liking using salt, pepper, basil, and crushed red pepper. (These are just suggestions on what I think tastes wonderful!)
  11. The bacon should be cooled and crispy by now. Chop it in to bacon bits and sprinkle in.
  12. Stir in strained noodles and mix.
  13. Top with Parmesan and enjoy!
**NOTE**
If your sauce gets to thick or there is not enough, add more chicken stock.
If your sauce isn’t creamy enough for your liking, add more cream.
