Well, hello there!

Hi there, everyone!

So much has changed since I was last here. In case you haven’t noticed (haha), I haven’t been to this space in over FOUR years. I (obviously) slowly but surely became burnt out in the fashion blogging space. Daily posts turned in to weekly, which turned into none at all. It’s crazy to think that I am an entirely different person now.

Where to start on the life updates…

In 2016, I built up that handmade baby clothing business I talked about a few times. It became a real job for me and replaced my income from my “normal” job completely….plus some. I hesitate to say “normal” job, because what is a normal job really? If it’s your job….it’s “normal” right?

Anyways, thewanderingbabe.com became my full-time job. Yup, that’s right…I design and sew baby clothes and sell them on my own website and Etsy…for a living. I’m sure we will never fully leave Etsy, but I hate to leave all my eggs in one basket if you know what I mean.

In 2018, my husband and I moved out to the bay area in California. We missed Austin terribly, but being in the tech industry, Silicon Valley was the place to be for my husband’s job. Shortly after the move, (surprise!) I got pregnant. Most of the year was a blur, with planning for the baby, running my shop, traveling to see my family and friends for baby showers, etc. The end of the year was spent relaxing with my husband and our fur baby Sophie, and nesting for babe’s arrival.

In January 2019, babe was born. She is by far the coolest thing I have ever made. Of all the things people tell you in preparation for having a baby, they just can’t prepare you for how stinkin’ much you’re going to love that tiny human. She’s the coolest person on this planet, and I am thankful every day to be able to spend my time with her. Sometimes she tests my patience, sometimes she tries to kill me via sleep deprivation, and sometimes she’s as sweet as pie. All I know if that I love that little munchkin more than anything.

Fast forward to this year…babe turned one in January, we took her to Disney World with my family at the beginning of March, and lockdown started the DAY we got back home from vacation. Two weeks into lockdown, we lost our sweet nugget, Sophie. It was the hardest time being stuck at home with little distraction after having lost my best friend and first babe. When my husband’s work decided they wouldn’t be coming back to the office until at least 2021, we made a HUG decision. We bought an rv, packed all of our belongings into storage and the rv, and set off for a life on the road. We’ve been at it since July, and have had more fun than we could have ever imagined.

I think this space will soon be redesigned and turned into more of a travel and toddler-like space, so stay tuned. I have so much more to update you with but will do so post by post instead of making this one 7000 paragraphs long. I’m so happy to be back in my creative space, and hope you will all join in again and read along! Well, That Didn’t Last Long…

Spring is here in Austin! Well…it was for a month and then it got back into the 50s and 60s again! Grrr! Well, you can call me crazy if you’re from the north, but 50s call for a scarf here in Texas! haha! I can’t complain because it’s supposed to be nice again for the rest of the week, but I had a little scare there on Monday when it was only 55 and super windy! Don’t mind me as I let out a sigh of relief that I might be able to put my scarves and such away after all!

I hope you all are having a wonderful week and remember, it’s Thursday already! Woohoo! I’ll be living it up this weekend…cleaning my house top to bottom and weeding our front yard. We have seriously got to hire someone to weed our yard for us on a regular basis! It is my least favorite thing to do and it gets out of control SO quickly! Haha! Oh well, I guess it’s up to me until we decide we want to pay someone an ungodly amount of $$$ to pull some weeds….not happening anytime soon. Oh well! Have a wonderful day!

THAT Red Dress

This dress. I am in LOVE with this dress. I saw it last fall when my Mom and I were out shopping and my first thought was, “I wish we were doing something for New Years Eve so that I could buy this and wear it.” Well, about a month later, we decided to go see our friends in Detroit for NYE and I immediately went to Macy’s to see if they still had the dress. Well, they didn’t have it at the one by me and I was bummed. I was determined though to have this dress, so I set my sights to the Macy’s website. I typed in red dress (yeah, so generic) because I had no idea how else to search for it, and begun to comb through the thousands of red dresses on the Macy’s website. 20 minutes or so in, and there she was! I checked out, buying two sizes just in case…and because anything over $99 was free shipping and I figured I would just return the size I didn’t need to the store. Best way to get free shipping:)

Well, I wore the dress for NYE and am still in love with it so I need to find another reason to wear it…I’m thinking birthday? I don’t celebrate Valentine’s day really, but for all of you who celebrate Valentine’s with parties or romantic dinners and such this dress would be perfect! Just a thought:) Any other ideas for when I can wear it? It’s just too pretty to be worn only once!

It’s Dress Time Again!

Now, I don’t want to jinx anything at all…but the weather has been absolutely gorgeous here in Austin lately. Perfect temperature and perfectly sunshiney…who could ask for anything more? Warmer wetaher obviously calls for dresses and sandals. I’m sorry…I don’t care if it is January or August, if it is warm enough, you will see me in a dress. When Good Row asked me to style a piece from their site, I jumped right on this one! I have had my eye on it and I just LOVE the colors! Not to mention it is SUPER soft! They have some super cute stuff up in the shop right now, including this floral maxi that I am DYING over…and it’s only $44.50! This dress is definitely on my go to list for brunch wear, especially as the weather starts to get warmer here in Austin. It’s perfect for waiting outside on South Congress, yet it still has sleeves so that when I go inside to the air conditioning I don’t freeze myself to death! Valentine’s Day 101: Hot Cocoa Party

Valentine’s day isn’t my thing and it never has been really. I just know that I would rather my husband buy me flowers on some random day in July than on the day when he feels obligated to do so by social pressures. It means much more and it doesn’t put pressure on him to do something like spend A LOT of $$$ on some roses that would normally be half the price. That being said, I love to do fun things like having a party with friends or do something free like going for a hike in the greenbelt.

So, for those of you like me, who prefer not to spend their Valentine’s day squished at a tiny table between two teenage couples making out because they added 10 more tables to their restaurant for the one day….here’s an idea for your party:) Two of my favorite words: hot chocolate. A hot chocolate party can be so much fun!

You can start by having different TYPES of hot chocolate. Crock Pot Hot Chocolate, Mexican Hot Chocolate, Mint Hot Chocolate, White Hot Chocolate. Once you’ve picked your types, you can start adding booze! Then add in the rest of the bar…chocolate stirring spoons, homemade marshmallows, mints, caramels, and of course a little bit of dessert! I got these chocolate covered s’mores from Shari’s Berries and OMG! First of all, they are HUGE! Second, they just taste so gooooood. I can’t even handle it! They are the perfect dessert to go with your hot cocoa:) The best part? Shari’s Berries makes them and delivers them so that you don’t have to! I may have gotten these ones courtesy of Shari’s Berries, but you can bet your *** I will be buying them again. Totally worth it:)
