Well, hello there!

Hello again (1)

Hi there, everyone!

So much has changed since I was last here. In case you haven’t noticed (haha), I haven’t been to this space in over FOUR years. I (obviously) slowly but surely became burnt out in the fashion blogging space. Daily posts turned in to weekly, which turned into none at all. It’s crazy to think that I am an entirely different person now.

Where to start on the life updates…

In 2016, I built up that handmade baby clothing business I talked about a few times. It became a real job for me and replaced my income from my “normal” job completely….plus some. I hesitate to say “normal” job, because what is a normal job really? If it’s your job….it’s “normal” right?

Anyways, thewanderingbabe.com became my full-time job. Yup, that’s right…I design and sew baby clothes and sell them on my own website and Etsy…for a living. I’m sure we will never fully leave Etsy, but I hate to leave all my eggs in one basket if you know what I mean.

In 2018, my husband and I moved out to the bay area in California. We missed Austin terribly, but being in the tech industry, Silicon Valley was the place to be for my husband’s job. Shortly after the move, (surprise!) I got pregnant. Most of the year was a blur, with planning for the baby, running my shop, traveling to see my family and friends for baby showers, etc. The end of the year was spent relaxing with my husband and our fur baby Sophie, and nesting for babe’s arrival.

In January 2019, babe was born. She is by far the coolest thing I have ever made. Of all the things people tell you in preparation for having a baby, they just can’t prepare you for how stinkin’ much you’re going to love that tiny human. She’s the coolest person on this planet, and I am thankful every day to be able to spend my time with her. Sometimes she tests my patience, sometimes she tries to kill me via sleep deprivation, and sometimes she’s as sweet as pie. All I know if that I love that little munchkin more than anything.

Fast forward to this year…babe turned one in January, we took her to Disney World with my family at the beginning of March, and lockdown started the DAY we got back home from vacation. Two weeks into lockdown, we lost our sweet nugget, Sophie. It was the hardest time being stuck at home with little distraction after having lost my best friend and first babe. When my husband’s work decided they wouldn’t be coming back to the office until at least 2021, we made a HUG decision. We bought an rv, packed all of our belongings into storage and the rv, and set off for a life on the road. We’ve been at it since July, and have had more fun than we could have ever imagined.

I think this space will soon be redesigned and turned into more of a travel and toddler-like space, so stay tuned. I have so much more to update you with but will do so post by post instead of making this one 7000 paragraphs long. I’m so happy to be back in my creative space, and hope you will all join in again and read along! Come on over to Instagram to say hi, we’ve been posting there for the last four years, so you can scroll through and see a little bit of what you’ve missed!

My Life: Binge Watching #YoungerTV

Screen Shot 2016-01-13 at 12.53.47 PM

Ahh! I am so excited for tonight! One of my favorite shows, Younger, is having their season 2 premiere at 9:00! I’ve been binge watching season 1 all morning while I work in preparation for tonight! I’m not going to lie, Hilary Duff is what drew me in in the first place. I mean who doesn’t want to relive their Lizzy McGuire childhood a little bit? Am I the only one? Lol!

If you’ve never seen the show before, it’s about this hilarious 40 year old woman who gets divorced and needs a job to support herself and her daughter after taking years off to raise her. She has to pretend to be 26 in order to land a job that she wants in social media and the rest is just hilarious! TV Land has absolutely KILLED it with this show and I highly recommend setting your DVR if you can’t be home:)

Anyways, I am back to working, planning, and binge watching! See you all tonight in TV Land!

Here I Am

Hello

Well, here I am. My life has completely changed over the last month. No, I am not pregnant. I am unemployed. Yep, you read that right, unemployed. I came home from our 2 week long European extravaganza, walked in to the door at work (15 minutes early too!), and was immediately laid off. Let me tell you, that was a shock. Just a couple of weeks before my vacation my boss and I had been talking about the next year and where my job was going. We were talking about what new tasks I was going to take over and how there was a possibility of me going down to 3 quarters time in order to work on my shop a bit more, yet still have benefits. Yeah…laid off.

I’ll tell you honestly, I was in complete shock for a good hour. I grabbed my things, left the building, drove the block home, and then called Wes. I told him what happened in a completely calm manner, and then it hit me. I lost my job. I had no job. That job I brag about to my friends and family for being so wonderful and having such great employers…yeah, it wasn’t mine any more. It hit me like a ton of bricks and I was mad. Mad because I didn’t get a legitimate reason. Mad because I felt led on and a little taken advantage of. Mad because had I known, we would have stayed with Wes’ aunt in the south of France for an extra week! Lol.

Well, what to do now? First things first, I spent a week figuring my life out. I decided what was best for me and my little family and then I got myself a pedicure. I spent a little time by myself, a little time cuddling my pup, and a lot of time talking with my husband. That’s just what you need to do in your first week off after being laid off. You do you.

So, what you may ask, are you going to do now? Well, that’s a tough one because it’s all kind of up in the air. Right now, I am working on my shop, my blog, my health, and searching for a new job. You know what? All of these things combined, they feel like a full time job. Like MORE than a full time job! My shop is doing pretty well with all of the Halloween costumes I’ve been selling, blogging is always an unending amount of work, staying healthy is a full time job in and of itself….and looking for a job…well, if you’ve done that before you know how it goes. I want to be picky, I want to find something that I will love with people that are amazing. Something like what I had at my old job. <sigh> Until I find that, my hobbies of blogging and sewing will just have to do:)

Now that you all have a full update on my life lately, what’s going on in yours?

Pink & Gold Unicorn Party

My sister is one of the best party planning Moms I have ever met. She thinks of the most adorable themes, finds the cutest decorations, and is the DIY queen. I just sit over here and reap the benefits:) Free cake, awesome photos, great ideas for my future babies, and a great blog post! Haha! My niece turned 3 this year, and her birthday was the cutest pink and gold unicorn party you have ever seen. Everything was adorable and mostly DIY which means it was cheap! Look how cute:

Pink and gold unicorn party- gold glitter vases, glitter unicorn cake, gold mason jars
This cake was to die for. The cake was purchased at Kroger and she just told them to put pink rosettes on it. She then cut out a unicorn in gold glitter card stock with her Silhouette Cameo, hot glued it to a wooden stick, and voila! Perfect little unicorn cake!Pink and Gold Unicorn Cake- Unicorn birthday party Gold glitter unicorn cake with pink icing
The vases and a few mason jars were decorated in glitter as well. For the ones with the stripe around the center, she just cut out a strip of glitter card stock and hot glued it to the jars. The dipped vases were a little more complicated than that, but still pretty easy. First, you put painter’s tape around the vase to create a straight line. Then you paint a layer of modge podge on the bottom half. Sprinkle some FINE glitter on to the modge podge. Let it dry and repeat the process until you have the amount of glitter you want! Put a top layer of modge podge on the last layer of glitter and let it dry!DIY Gold glitter vases- gold birthday party decor Gold dipped mason jars- perfect for birthday parties
This tassel banner was actually made by yours truly. I will be writing a tutorial about how to make your own in the upcoming weeks, so stay tuned!
