Fit Friday: Ikea Hack Standing Desk

Ikea Hack Standing DeskHappy fit Friday, everyone! Today, I’m going to talk about something that I, personally, have done at work to help myself stay active….a standing desk. Back story time!
After doing some research online, I decided at the beginning of last year to start sitting on a exercise ball while at my desk. Well, a day into it my back started hurting more than usual. After a little more research, I learned that you are only supposed to do this for part of the day because it can cause even more back pain than usual. Well considering I already have a bad back I decided to nix that idea! My next idea was a standing desk. I worked in retail management for 5 years prior to my current job, and if you know anything about retail you know that you stand all day long. Well, I was pretty used to standing all day and thought that if I could stand for most of my day at my current job I would feel so much less lazy! So, I looked online a little more and found a really great “Ikea hack” standing desk. One of the guys in my office actually had this exact same one so I knew that it would work well.
Standing Desk made from Ikea furniture

How to make it:

Start with an Ikea “Lack” side table, 2 shelves, and 2 brackets. (You will only need one table if you only have one monitor, but I have my laptop stand and a monitor so I needed two!). Attach the brackets to the lack table, and throw that shelf on up there! It is the perfect set up for me and puts my monitors at a really great height. I am about 5’4″ and my desk is 2’5″ tall for your reference. You could probably be up to about 5′ 8″ or 5’9″ before they would start to be to low at this desk height. You could always remedy that by sticking something underneath the legs to make it taller.

I feel like the standing desk makes me walk around more. Instead of sitting there in my chair when I am thinking, I pace my office. I also like to do some exercises while I am standing there. If you are sitting at a desk all day, you are much less likely to get up, move your chair, and then do exercises, but when you stand all day it just happens. Plus standing still for a while at your desk will make moving around feel great! I’ll be sure to let you in on my Standing desk work out sometime in the near future:)
Well, now that you know how to do it for a great price, there is nothing stopping you from getting a little healthier and building your own standing desk! Have a wonderful weekend everyone! Thanks for reading!

ThirdLove For Valentine’s Day

Third Love Review Teal bra and panties
Undergarments are one of my favorite things to buy, but LEAST favorite things to actually shop for. I mean, you have to try on a million styles in every different size to find the perfect fit. Because really, who wants to actually get fit for one? There’s nothing like an awkward bra fitting with a salesperson in a dirty dressing room to get you excited for new bras! The whole concept of the entire thing just kind of weirds me out. Not to mention, I think there is something wrong with the mirrors in there, they make you look all funky and washed out…not what I want went I’m prancing around in my skivvies trying to find a bra that fits and some cute undies to go with it. So, when I was approached by ThirdLove to try out their site I was beyond happy to do so!
First of all, they have some really cute stuff, like what I picked out up there^^! How pretty is that teal color?! Second, they have this iPhone app that allows you to take photos of yourself in your mirror at home (fully clothed;-)) and it will help you determine your size! Unfortunately, I don’t have an iPhone so I was unable to try this part out, but I am jealous of all the iPhone users who can do this!
They also have 1/2 sizes, because if you are like me, you can never find a perfect fit because you are in between sizes. That being said, if you don’t love your bra or it doesn’t fit and you need a new size, all returns and exchanges (in the US) have free shipping back to ThirdLove! How awesome is that? There is nothing worse than ordering something and needing a new size, then having to pay shipping back to the shop and not knowing whether the next one will fit you either!
I know that I got my bra and panty courtesy of ThirdLove, but I can honestly say that I would purchase from them again in the future! The bra is super comfortable and the undies match it just perfectly1 You should go check them out before Valentine’s day comes and goes…this would be the perfect time to give it a try! Not only is V day coming up, but Third Love is giving you $20 off your purchase if you sign up through this link!

Summer Colors & Body Talk

Red white and blue outfit inspiration

Happy hump day! I hope everyone in Texas is enjoying the GORGEOUS weather we’ve been having all week. It was almost 80 degrees yesterday! It’s supposed to cool down a little bit by the weekend, but I still can’t complain about 60s when everywhere else is swamped with snow and frigid cold!
All this warm weather has really gotten me thinking about our annual trip to Michigan this summer…hence the red, white, and blue outfit! This combo is one of my favorites! You may recognize the sweater from a month or so back, I wore it here in grey. Well, I loved it so much that I had my Momma get me one for Christmas in navy:) It’s super soft and I will still never get over the fact that I found it at Costco!

I have to say, it’s been harder for me to post photos of myself lately. I have felt a little yucky about my body lately and I know exactly why. I stopped going to my bootcamp back before Christmas because it got to cold for me at 5:00AM (I’m a wimp). Ever since then I have been a little “softer” than I would like to be. I have run a bit and will be going to a gym once it opens next month, but I really need to get back on track. If you follow often, I posted about my fitness goals here a few weeks ago, and I have been pretty good at the eating healthier portion of it all…just not the working out part. I am getting together a fitness routine for myself that I’ll be sure to post on Fitness Friday next month for you all to see. I really want to get myself into good shape before the summer comes so that I can look great in that flamingo bikini I bought last year:) Who’s with me?

Mansfield Dam Park- Austin, TX

Mansfield Dam Park

This past weekend my parents came down from Dallas to visit and we took a little trip out to the Mansfield Dam Park on Lake Travis. It was so pretty, but it is CRAZY how low the lake is! We looked it up and supposedly the water level is down 50-60 feet to what it’s supposed to be! You can see by looking at the dam and the rocks around the lake where the water should be. I’ll definitely be thinking about it all next time I take a super long shower or water my lawn! Even with the low water level, Lake Travis is still a beautiful sight:)Mansfield Dam Park at Lake Travis Lake Travis Park Lake Travis Mansfield Dam Park The Oasis- Lake Travis View from the Oasis, Lake TravisWe also went to the brewery at The Oasis which I talked about a little yesterday. I can’t wait to go back once its a little nicer outside this spring/summer! Did you guys do anything fun this weekend?

Pink, burgundy, and chambray outfit

It’s Monday again…..<sigh> at least it’s supposed to be nice this week. We had a beautiful weekend here in Austin. The sun was shining and my parents were in town so we went out to Lake Travis. We walked around the Mansfield Damn park and then went to the brewery at the Oasis. I am really excited for it to be summer and for our friend from Michigan to come visit so that we can go back. They had cornhole and adult jenga to play and an amazing view of the lake and hill country. If you haven’t been before and you are in the area, you should definitely check it out!

I wore this outfit last week when it was cold. It almost feels wrong to post it today since it’s going to be in the 70s here, but for all of you northern ladies who need warm weather inspiration here you go! Lol! I love the pink and burgundy together, and of course chambray just goes so well with everything. I was going to wear some flats with this outfits, but the polka dot tights and boots were more than necessary last week…my windshield even froze one morning! I really hope that this nice weather is here to stay so that I can start taking some spring time outfit photos, those are my favorite:) How was everyone else’s weekend?!
