Mint And Magenta

Mint Tee shirt with white denim and pink

Another glorious weekend comes and goes. Saturday was 80 degrees and sunny, no humidity- doesn’t get any better than that! Wes and I went hiking in the greenbelt and then lay around in the park most of the day. It was definitely a flamingo print t-shirt kind of day:) Sunday wasn’t as nice, but I really can’t complain about 65 degree weather when it’s 2 degrees elsewhere. It’s probably a good thing that it wasn’t sunny out, because Wes and I weren’t feeling the best.  We laid around most of the day and watched a couple of movies which was just what we needed after our busy Saturday. Mint Flamingo Top with Magenta Kendra Scott Necklace Flamingo t-shirt with magenta necklace Mint, pink, and white outfit- Feb 2015 Mint t-shirt and white denim with pink converse Pink and mint t-shirt with flamingos Mint Flamingo T-Shirt White denim with mint flamingo t-shirt

I found this t-shirt while walking through Target a week or so ago and let’s be real- it had a flamingo and I had to have it. Flamingos are my favorite and I need to buy pretty much everything I find with one on it:) I love the mint and pink together and I LOVE my Kendra Scott jewelry with it! The entire outfit just makes me happy and wish that the summer-like weather from Saturday was here to stay forever! I’m still not feeling 100% so I don’t have a whole ton to say today, but I hope you enjoyed the outfit and thanks for stopping by!

Garlic Parmesan Tilapia

Garlic Parmesan Tilapia Recipe
Today’s recipe is one of those that kind of happens by accident, and you are SO glad that it did. I knew that I wanted to make us tilapia with veggies and rice, but I was sick of the same old tilapia with lemon pepper seasoning. I looked through the fridge to see what we had (not much lol) and I found a block of parmesan and some garlic. Well, I thought, I could make something out of that…..garlic parmesan you see that all the time! So, I put everything together and threw it on the grill, half expecting it to be just alright when it was done. It.was.so.good.

Ingredients:

  • Tilapia Filets
  • Olive Oil
  • Shredded parmesan (or a block and a grater)
  • Minced garlic- fresh, in a jar, or dried in the spice aisle
  • Salt, pepper, crushed red pepper
  • Sides- I made balsamic asparagus and some Near East wild rice
Garlic Parmesan Tilapia on the grill

Directions:

  1. First, you are going to want to make yourself a tin foil pouch- like pictured. You just fold all sides of the tin foil until you have a little foil dish.
  2. You will want to put some olive oil down first so that the fish doesn’t stick to the foil.
  3. Coat your tilapia in olive oil, using a basting brush.
  4. Sprinkle garlic, parmesan, salt, pepper, and crushed red pepper on to both sides of the fish.
  5. Once you have placed your fish in your tin foil pouch, add a little extra parmesan to the top.
  6. Grill on medium/high until tilapia is cooked through thoroughly.
  7. Serve with your choice of sides!
  8. NOTE: This dish can also be baked in the oven if you don’t have a grill!

I kid you not, I made this for Wes and I for dinner, then the next day I had it for lunch….and a few days later I had it for lunch again. So good. Tilapia is by far my favorite type of fish…anyone else have a good tilapia recipe? Link it up in the comments below so I can check it out!

Hearts For Valentine’s Day

Red heart elbow patches and bow- perfect for Valentines day

If you missed yesterday’s tutorial on how to make this heart elbow patch cardigan, get your little fanny on over there and check it out! It’s super easy and takes very few supplies. I have seen heart elbow patch sweaters around for the past couple of years, but I didn’t want to spend $50 on something I *might* not wear that often. So, crafty Megan comes in to play and voila, you get a heart print heart elbow patch sweater! lol! Double hearts for me:)
I love how it turned out and it matches my little heart bow that I made (for sale here, by me #shopsmall) It’s actually turning out to be a little bit warmer than I had expected this week, but sometimes you just have to brave through the 80 degree heat and wear a cute cardigan anyways!

I am loving the mint and red combo in this outfit and I don’t think that I wear it nearly enough. Much better than an accidental mint and mustard combo I wore the other day. Yeah, that’s what happens when you are running late, forget to change out your mint handbag, and then throw on a mustard colored shirt! Whoops! Good thing that outfit wasn’t documented in any way shape or form, it was not so good. Well, be sure to stop on by tomorrow for a delicious, healthy recipe I concocted last weekend! Thanks for stopping by!

DIY Heart Elbow Patch Cardigan

DIY Heart Elbow Patch Sweater

Even though we really don’t celebrate Valentine’s day here in the Todd household, it’s still really fun to decorate and dress for!  Let’s be real, when do I ever turn down a chance to craft? Lol! Last year, I made this super fun heart shaped wreath out of a pool noodle, and this year it’s a fun elbow patch sweater! Valentine’s day just gives us all a chance to wear our hearts on our sleeve…yes, pun intended!

Heart Elbow Patch Cardigan DIY

This years Valentine’s craft is so easy it isn’t even funny. All you need is a cardigan, some fabric, and one of the following: thread, iron-on adhesive, or double sided tape. It really depends on how permanent you want your patches to be! Just get together all of your supplies and then follow the steps below!

Make your own heart elbow patches

Directions:

  1. Google image search “heart” and find one that suits your liking.
  2. Save the image to your computer and print it out on card stock- you may have to re-size the heart a few times to get the size you want.
  3. Cut out your card stock heart.
  4. Use your heart as a stencil to cut out your fabric pieces.
  5. Put on your cardigan and pin your heart to your elbow where you want it to be.
  6. Take off the cardigan and decide which type of adhesive you are going to use.
  7. If you want a permanent patch and have a sewing machine, sew around the perimeter of the hearts on each elbow.
  8. If you want a permanent patch, but don’t have a sewing machine (or aren’t very good at it;-)) stick your iron on adhesive between the patches and the sweater- iron.
  9. If you want a less permanent solution and would like to wear your sweater again without the patches grab some double sided tape like this. You will wants extra strong kind. This will allow you to wear the sweater with patches once, and then you can remove them and reapply as needed using more tape.

Ta da! Isn’t it adorable? I think it’s the perfect little Valentine’s sweater without being too overly gaudy! Have a fun Valentine craft or post? Link to it in the comments so I can come check them out!

Making The Average Pop

Black and white and pink outfit- from Kendra Scott and Old Navy

What an absolutely beautiful weekend we had here! The sun was shining, it was a beautiful temperature, and I wore dresses the entire time:) It felt like such a productive weekend too! I got in over 17,000 steps on my Jawbone Saturday, went for a 2.63 mile run, made a great new recipe, did some housework, and still managed to spend some time hangin’ with the husband watching New Girl on Netflix! <Sigh> Is it Friday again yet?

Today’s outfit is one from the beautiful weekend. This dress from Old Navy has been one of my favorites since I bought it last fall and I have been dying to wear it again in some warm weather, WITHOUT tights! Sometimes all it takes to add a little pizazz (yes, I just said the word pizazz) to an outfit is throwing in a pop of color. It’s amazing how one bright color can liven up the entire black and white outfit! For those of your questioning a Kendra Scott purchase like the Rayne necklace, let me just tell you I LOVE mine. I had thought about this magenta one for MONTHS before I actually bought up the courage to spend the $$$, but it was well worth the wait. I have worn this baby with so many different outfits and it always, without a doubt MAKES the entire outfit. Pick a color that will pop, but will match a lot of your clothing and you should be good to go. I also have it in the black and gold which I love for outfits that are already bright, but the magenta is by far my favorite. I am a pink girl after all:) #ilovepink
